Nightmare Before Christmas Pumpkins :)

Well, today I carved my pumpkins for Halloween,
and I carved them all with a Nightmare before Christmas theme :D

I am a HUGE Nightmare Before Christmas fan! It's one of my favourite movies,
and I can never get enough of anything related to it.
I have the soundtrack, a bag, and I have the movie on my iPod and computer.

If you haven't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas yet,
you NEED to! It's an amazing movie, delightfully creepy with catchy songs and fantastic characters.
It's one of those movies I can never get sick of. I used to watch this movie over and over again when I was little even though I was totally afraid of Oogey Boogey. He doesn't scare me anymore though :P lol

My Zero Pumpkin :)

I decided to do a pumpkin for Jack, one for his dog, Zero, and one for the trick or treaters, Shock, Lock and Barrel. The Shock, Lock and Barrel pumpkin was tough because I wanted something really intricate, but that was so not happening. I ended up just doing the outline of their faces and writing trick 'r treat, but I still love it.

I put some pictures on here so that you can see them too! :D

My Jack Pumpkin :D

My Lock, Shock and Barrel Pumpkin :)

I like how they turned out actually, and I can't wait to see them in the dark. We're using glow sticks in them this year. I'll post some pictures of them glowing after Halloween :)

So, did anyone else carve any pumpkins?? :D

[Review] Relatively Famous by Jessica Park

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was an amazing and adorable story. It was fast-paced, with some wonderful characters. It was just the book I needed right now. For Dani it was perpetually sunny in California and right now for me I'm seeing snow.

I loved how Jessica added elements of Hollywood and LA that we all associate with movie stars and other celebrities. The paparazzi, the restaurants where they get 'spotted', the agents, the parties...I was swept up in the LA lifestyle just as much as Dani was, although I may have realized she was being bratty a little earlier that she did.

The characters were remarkable. Dani was down-to-earth, relateable, and incredibly persistent. Even though I know my father and he most certainly is not famous, I could sympathize with the things she was going through. I thought she was a fantastic main character.

Mark, oh that Mark Ocean, I would have thought he was dreamy had I not been reading it from his daughter's perspective. Shallow at first, he grew on me. Even when before Dani arrived I sympathized with Mark, and I loved going along with him through his transformation.

This story was told in alternating perspectives, which I honestly wasn't expecting, at first it was kind of different, but I loved it the more I read. You get to see Dani and Mark's sides, it's like knowing both sides of a story at the same time, which you don't see very often.

Not only was this story filled with an incredible journey between a father and daughter, it also had boys, which I will never complain about. It was hilarious too, I was cracking up over the joking in this story more than once, I loved Dani's sense of humor. It was also an emotional journey, and I teared up and shed some tears multiple times.

The ending seemed a little rush, but it was so adorable that I didn't really mind. Although I could have done with a little more of ______ at the end. (I'm leaving that a blank so that if you read it I don't ruin it :P )

I loved this story, and I recommend it to anyone who loves a great story because that's exactly what this is.

*Thank you Jessica for providing this book for a fair review. This review is completely of my own opinion, and I was not required to give a positive review.*

I'm living in a house without cable at the moment, so I had to scour the internet to find a link for The Rocky Horror GLEE Show episode, and finally I found it.

I thought I'd be nice and share it. Hopefully the hosting site will keep it up so I can keep this post up.
I was going to post the actually embedded video, but it puts up lots of pop-ups, so here's the link instead:

Blog Award :)

This is my first blog award, and I'm pretty happy about it...and more than a little excited!
Thanks Missy (@ Missy's Reads and Reviews) for giving me this blog award, I definitely appreciate it! :D

Rules:

1. Thank and link back to the person that gave this award.

2. Answer the 10 survey questions.

3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic.

4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked to let them know about the award.

Questions:

1. If you blog anonymously are you happy doing it that way; if you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now?

I haven't been blogging very long, but to be honest, I never really wanted to do it anonymously. I like to be myself, and it's hard to do that by hiding behind an invisibility cloak...er I mean by being anonymous.

2. Describe one incident that shows your inner stubborn side:

I can be pretty stubborn, I won't lie. Although I tend to be pretty outspoken with my stubborn side, it's not very inner. I'm not sure if I can think of a specific example, it's usually little things, like if I'm mad, I tend to stay mad...at least for a while, or until someone wears me down through candy. : P

3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?

That's a hard one. All I can really say is that I see myself, at least I hope I do. Somedays I look a little tired, somedays I look a little flushed, and somedays I think I look like I'm glowing. We all see ourselves differently depending on how we're feeling. I like to think that I'm confident in who I am and what I look like, but I won't lie, I have insecurities just like everyone else, but I still love myself despite them, after all it's those little imperfections that make us all unique and shape who we are.

4. What is your favourite summer cold drink?

Coca-Cola!! I'm a huge Coke fan, and I'll choose it over Pepsi everytime!

5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?

I read. I tend to push everything aside to spare time for recreational reading...reading for school doesn't count. :P

6. Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?

Well, since I'm still in University there are tons of things I want to accomplish in my life. I want to figure out what I want to do with my life, I have ideas, but nothing completely solid yet. Someday I'd like a family too, but that's not for a long long time.

7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever , the shy person, or always ditching?

I was totally the class overachiever, and I'm not ashamed. I would call myself the Teacher's pet, but to be honest, I never had to try that hard. Teachers just loved me, probably because I actually did my homework (unlike most of my classmates :P), and I'm constantly smiling. People love when you smile. :)

8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment of your life what would you see?

To be honest, I really don't know what to put for this one. I guess I'd probably say the day of my grandma's funeral, when I also moved away from home for the first time. It was a huge wake up call, telling me I was growing up and that things were changing. I was an emotional wreck, and it really made me realize how much my family means to me. It also made me see how much I rely on them. I only moved like an hour and half away into residences at my University, but it felt like I was moving across the country. I wouldn't see my parents, my dogs, or even my brother (who I sometimes don't get along with, although we're getting much closer) everyday. It was a shock and I won't like, I spent a lot of time crying. I cried over my grandma, over missing home, missing my parents, missing everything familiar. It was terrible I won't lie, but it helped me see how much they mean to me, and how time with them is precious. I still go home every weekend, but now I live in a house instead of residences. When I go home I can relax and spend time with my family and my dogs. Before I moved out I never once thought about how I'd feel when I left home. I'm not homesick anymore, but I still love going back. And I still miss my grandma, but I can't dwell on that, so instead I just appreciate everyone else a little bit more.

9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?

It's easy for me to share my true self in my blog, if people don't like it they won't really respond, and that's fine. I tend to think I'm a likeable person, so I've never been too worried either. Although if someone was mean I'd definitely get upset, but everyone's been so awesome, and I've had nothing but a fantastic response with my blog. People following, other bloggers, and other commentors have been extremely welcoming and friendly, so they make it easy to share who you are, at least for me it's that way.

10. If you had the choice to sit down and read or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?

Sit down and read. I used to talk on the phone all the time. I'd have conversations that lasted pretty much all night, now I'm really not sure why I ever talked on the phone like that. And I'd pick reading because I love it, and getting lost in a book is an amazing feeling! :)

The Recipients:

Thanks again Missy, and Congrats to everyone I've chosen!

Review: One Night That Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt

One Night That Changes Everything
by Lauren Barnholdt

I loved this book! I love Lauren's writing style, she has a way of making her characters fresh, realistic and relateable. I read Two-Way Street over the summer and I loved every minute off it, so I was expecting very good things from One Night That Changes Everything, and I wasn't disappointed!

I loved every minute of this book, and I finished it quickly because I didn't want to put it down, I just had to know how it ended. It was an addictive, and quick read. The characters were fantastic, and I felt like I knew them. I was cheering Eliza on every step of the way as she tried to get her notebook back, and I loved Cooper! He was an amazing character, and even though Eliza 'hated' him or tried to  convince herself that she did, I was cheering for him every step of the way too.

Not only did this book have great characters, it also had an interesting and unique flow. Instead of normal flashbacks to figure out what happened between Cooper and Eliza, we got to see it through Eliza's thoughts and memories in quick sentences or brief periods. It made the story seem incredibly realistic, and it was totally refreshing.

This was an amazing story and I wholeheartedly recommend it, especially if you're like me and need a quick break from reading mostly paranormal stories. I love Lauren's stories and I can't wait to read some more! :)

Introducing....my dogs :)

Okay, so I'm sure most of you probably don't care about my dogs, but I love them oodles and oodles, so I wanted to share them with you! :)

We have 3 dogs, 2 boys and 1 girl.

This is Molly, our dachshund, she's the baby out of our dogs. She's also the boss, so don't mess with her...actually if you do mess with her she'll just end up trying to kiss you. She's a humongous suck up and loves attention.

This is Ranger, he's a cockapoo, that's a cocker spaniel and poodle mix. He's the old man out of our dogs, but he's still my baby. We've had him since I was four, and his 15th birthday is coming up on November 4th. This picture's a couple years old, so he's got a little more gray and is more distinguished now.

This is Riley, our long haired chihuahua. I know chihuahua's have all these negative connotations surrounding them, and trust me, he does bark a lot and at a very high frequency, but to be honest, we think he acts more like a cat than a dog. He likes to sit in the sun, perches on the couch...and on you if you let him, and he incessantly wants you to pet him.

So they're all pretty different, but they all hog the bed. Seriously, I have a double sized bed and I end up getting a quarter of it if my chihuahua and dachshund are on there. My cockapoo's getting a little to old to sleep on my bed though, it's too high for him to get up on so he prefers the floor, a blanket or a pillow. When he used to sleep on my bed though he was also a major bed hog. :P

Anyways, I'm getting very odd topic.
These are my dogs, and I love them. I hope you think they're kinda cute too. :)

Ranger

Riley

Molly

So, do you have any pets???

If you do, why don't you tell me a little bit about them, or even share a picture, I'd love to know more about them. :)

Hunting for Nightshade....Andrea Cremer's contest and my hunt for the book

Goodreads Page.)

Yesterday was the release day for Nightshade, and since I already had plans to go out with my best friend it worked out perfectly. We planned to go to supper, Chapters, and then finally to see Easy A in theatres.

Supper was awesome, but ran a little late, so we decided to go to a later movie and spend even more time in Chapters, which was probably a good thing because we had a coupon for 20% off our purchases, not including the 10% off from the iRewards card, so boy did we spend.

We wandered through the store and wound up in the Young Adult's section, and I searched and searched for Nightshade. Somehow I kept missing it, so I printed off the information from the little kiosks on where it was in the store....and it was right beside where I was standing.

Right in front of me the whole time. :P

But I found it, so I'll deal with a little bit of embarrassment from momentarily forgetting my alphabet.
I blame Chapters, it always gets me giddy on books. There's a reason my parents only take me there so often afterall....I spend lots, I get SUPER excited, and I end up making friends with the sales staff, which for some reason my mom finds kind of weird.

Anyways, here's a photo of me with my lovely prize from my hunting expedition...next time I'm brining a map.

Just a quick question before I go...have you picked up your copy of Nightshade yet????

Oh and in case you were wondering, Easy A was awesome, probably the funniest movie I've seen all year. I defintiely recommend going to see it if you haven't already. It's actually a pretty clever movie, which is really rare nowadays. :)

Halloween Read-A-Thon Results!!!!

Ok, so I started strong with the Read-a-thon, finishing The Body Finder before I started my new picks for the weekend, then I had class so that put a damper on my reading.

Even with class, I managed to start and finish I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore on Friday.

I LOVED this book. I'm not sure yet, but I'll probably end up writing a review for it. I'll still tell you a little bit about it. This book was full of action, suspense, some mystery, and even some love, which to be honest, I definitely was not expecting. I've been wanting to read this book for a while now, and I'm so glad that I did, especially since I want to see the movie when it goes into theatres in February. :)

Just for fun, here's the official trailer for I Am Number Four:

Late Friday night, or should I say very early Saturday morning I started Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce. I finished it later in the day.

I came across this story over the summer when I was in BC. I was chatting books with the one girl that worked at Chapters because Linger had just come out, and she recommended this book to me. I thought why not, let's give it a try. I'm not sure what I was expecting. I knew it was a twist on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and that they hunted wolves, but that was about all I knew. So I decided the Read-a-thon would be a perfect time to read it. I liked this book, it was unique and definitely an interesting read. It's told in the alternating perspectives of two sisters, and personally, I wasn't as interested during Scarlett's chapters, but I still really liked it. Overall it was an awesome book. :)

After finishing Sisters Red on Saturday, I quickly started Paranormalcy. I only took one break, and that was to finish watching My Fair Lady with my mom. :) I finished it late late Saturday night or very early Sunday morning...as you can see, sleep was very slim this weekend. :P

I LOVED Paranormalcy! This is probably one of the most unique paranormal stories I've ever read. It was fresh, while still having familiar races of paranormals within the story, and because Evie didn't know her own origin, we the readers, got to go with her on the ride of self discovery. I totally loved Lend too! :) Amazing story, this one is definitely a must read!

I didn't finish this one, but I did start it, and I'm about halfway through it right now. I started it on Sunday, and I should be finished pretty soon. I had a quiz this morning, and a family dinner last night at my Aunt and Uncle's house, so there wasn't too much spare time for reading unfortunately. I'm loving this book so far though, it's definitely one that you don't want to put down unless forced.

And finally, The Iron Daughter. Well, since I didn't finish  The Iron King, I haven't started this one yet, but boy am I excited to! I just wanted to share this cover and goodreads link in case anyone was curious. :)

Well that wraps up my Post-Halloween Read-a-thon Blog post!!! I had an amazing time participating, and am definitely looking forward to participating in more Read-a-thons in the future!

I'd like to thank Leslie at Young Adult Books Reviewed for hosting the Halloween Read-a-thon! It was a fantastic idea, and I had a wonderful weekend, thanks to you.

This blog post is for the reading challenge over at YA Addict's Blog!

She asked participants to blog about their spookiest read!

Okay, so my spookiest read ever was:

...I'm totally kidding. :P

Seriously though, the spookiest book I probably ever read was Night by Elie Wiesel. It wasn't spooky in the traditional sense of ghosts go bump in the night and all that. To me it was spooky because it was real. Those horrendous things happened to real people, and that really got to me.

Spookiness aside, it was an amazing story, and don't tell my high school English teacher this....but I actually really enjoyed reading it.

Halloween Read-A-Thon!!! My Choices :)

Okay, now I feel kind of silly. I totally signed up for the Halloween Read-A-Thon over at Young Adult Books Reviewed blog (Link Here)...and I totally forgot about it. In fact, if I hadn't stumbled upon it today, the day before it takes place I would've totally missed it. Thankfully I did though! :D

Anyways, so for the Read-A-Thon from Oct.15 to Oct.17 I'm going to read as Halloween themed books as I can! I'll try and keep my twitter posted with my status on the books I'm reading. :)

Anyways, so my choices for the Read-A-Thon are gonna be:

I Am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore
Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Iron Daughter by Julia Kagawa

I'm almost finished reading The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting right now, so I'll start on these books after that one, hopefully I can finish at least a couple of them. I figure it's better to shoot big and go home than it is to underestimate myself though. ;)

Anyways, feel free to participate in the Read-A-Thon even if you aren't signed up for it, it is for fun afterall.

REVIEW!! [Stolen: a letter to my captor by Lucy Christopher]

Well, since I've been reading up a storm this week, and popping out reviews like crazy, here's another one.

Stolen: A letter to my captorStolen: A letter to my captor by Lucy Christopher

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After I finished this story all I could really say was, "Woah..."

It was definitely an incredibly unique story. This was Gemma's story, told through a letter that she wrote to the man that 'stole' her. If my friend Steph reads this, I just wanna say thanks for recommending this book to me, I loved it!

I didn't expect to like this story as much as I did. It was kind of an out there idea, and I was pleasantly surprised by how enthralled I became with this story.

Ty may have stolen Gemma, but I couldn't help feeling for the guy. I empathized for him, and to be honest, even wanted Gemma to come around and like him.

The Australian outback is described so vividly and plays such an important role in the story. Even London, through Gemma's memories plays a pretty vital role. Australia sounded gorgeous, even though it seemed like a prison to Gemma, she couldn't help seeing it's beauty.

After finishing this story I'm not even sure how I felt about Ty. Just like Gemma, my feelings are completely all over the place. A part of me can't help but want to hug the guy though, and I think Gemma feels the same way.

An amazing, interesting and intriguing story. It's definitely worth reading, and I hope that this review does it some justice.

FIRELIGHT FILLED POST!!! Review, Video, Excerpt...and details for Upcoming FIRELIGHT GIVEAWAY!!

FIRELIGHT by Sophie Jordan!!!

Here's the description on the book jacket:

MY HEART POUNDS IN MY CHEST AS HE DRAWS CLOSER.
I know the precise moment he sees me. He freezes, stills in the water, sinking low, his lips brushing the waterline.
We stare at each other.
It will happen now. He will call the others. They will swarm on me like hungry predators.
Then he moves, swims closer in an easy glide. A muscle feathers the flesh of his jaw, and something flutters in my belly. He doesn't look hard, as I'd imagine. He doesn't look evil. He looks...curious.

My FIRELIGHT review:

I loved this book! It was amazing, and waiting for it to come in from the Book Depository was pure torture. I was so excited to read this book, and it didn't disappoint at all!
The characters were fresh, vivid, and realistic. I wanted to know them. They each had their own personalities, and interesting backgrounds. Jacinda was an amazing protagonist, and her spirit was so fierce. I loved reading about her.
I loved reading about Draki's especially. Draki are descendants of dragons, and Jacinda's one of them. I don't want to give away too much about this book, but I'll share some stuff. There are different kinds of draki, each with specific abilities. You learn about some of these abilities in Firelight, and you even get to see them in action.
I've always been a bit of a dragon fan, and Sophie's interpretation of the newer descendants of dragons was fresh, and incredibly unique. She did a fantastic job weaving together their history, and the way that they've managed to survive and hide for all these years. It made me feel as if maybe draki really do exist somewhere out there. I'm not going to delude myself and look for dragons or anything like that, but I loved how she managed to weave the draki seamlessly into our everyday world.

This story was amazing, and wonderfully done. I fully recommend it and hope that everyone else enjoys it just as much as I did. The next book is called Vanish, and I for one am waiting on batted breath for it to come out! :)

Firelight Video!

Now, here's a teaser from the first chapter!

"Gazing out at the quiet lake, I know the risk is worth it.
The water is still and smooth. Polished glass. Not a ripple of wind disturbs the dark surface. Low-rising mist drifts off liquid mountains floating against a purple-bruised sky. An eager breath shudders past my lips. Soon the sun will break."

If you want to read more, the first 7 chapters are available HERE on the HarperCollins Publishers website.

Also, if anyone is interested on checking out Sophie Jordan's website, here's the link: http://www.sophiejordan.net/

I also plan on having a giveaway for Firelight soon!
I signed up for Team Draki, and Sophie gave me some bookmarks, bookcards, and stickers that I plan on sharing. I'm going to be giving away a copy of Firelight too! In total, I plan on having 6 winners!!

First Review!!! Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Okay, I've been toying with the idea of starting reviews on my blog, and I figure I might as well go for it. :D
I was originially going to do City of Bones by Cassandra Clare first, but I just finished an awesome book, and I thought it deserved some props!

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

(Click This Link to Go to Amy&Roger's Epic Detour's Goodreads Page!)

I can't even quite remember where I heard of this story, but boy am I glad I did. I put it on hold at the library, and it came in within the week. I started it yesterday, and finished it today.

It was such an amazing story. It had adorable and 'awe' kind of moments, but it was deeper than that. You got to know Amy and Roger. You felt like you were on the road trip with them. These characters were relateable and they were real. I absolutely LOVED this story.

It was also told in a very interesting way. You had moments where you were taken back into the past, and you got to see what happened back then. You also got to see Amy's travel scrapbook, which I totally loved! The playlists were awesome too! I just loved the unique way that this story was told. You stuck with Amy's POV throughout the entire story, but we got to know Roger just as well as she did. :)

I totally recommend this story. Amy and Roger, or should I call them Hillary and Edmund, had quite the 'epic detour' and it was well worth going along for the ride.
